Long-Term US Economic Growth and the Carbon Dioxide Emissions Nexus: A Wavelet-Based Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
Economic growth has significantly boomed carbon emissions in the global economy. However, there is an ongoing debate about economic growth–carbon emission nexus for various economies literature. This paper investigates short/long-term causal information flow between fossil-fuel-related dioxide (CO2) and (GDP) US economy spanning from 1800 to 2014. Using wavelet-based-nonparametric Granger causality analysis, empirical results indicate that (i) long-run running GDP CO2 positive, strong, uninterrupted concentrated since 1990s; (ii) reverse positive but interrupted, short-term intensifying during early 1990s. Due strong very long-term unidirectional findings, leads environmental deterioration. Hence, policymakers, environment-based policies structural reforms can foreshadow energy-efficient by limiting emissions. sustainable are expected decelerate problems promote sustainability. The findings be attractive other booming economies.

Economic and Environmental Factors Determining the Amount of Carbon Dioxide Emissions in the MENA Countries
Abstract: The gradual warming of the earth and its negative environmental and economic impacts contributed to pay attention to sustainable development considerably. Since climate change is a major cause of greenhouse gas emissions, including CO2, countries are seeking to prevent the rapid growth of emissions to reduce global climate change. Accordingly, and considering the importance of the sub...
متن کاملNuclear exit , the US energy mix , and carbon dioxide emissions
If the United States were to adopt a policy to phase out nuclear generation, as has happened recently in other developed countries, what would the environmental and energy-mix implications be? Based on alternative scenarios of nuclear exit that consider the influence of potential policies to limit greenhouse gas emissions, a model of the US and global economy indicates that, under current polic...

greenhouse gas emissions are considered as the main cause of climate change. investigation of economic dimensions of greenhouse gas emissions and its environmental effects especially in a situation where the volume of greenhouse gas increasingly is rising is very important. in this paper, the relationship between greenhouse gas emissions i.e. carbon dioxide and gdp per capita and energy consump...
متن کاملCarbon Dioxide Emissions, Economic Growth and the Impact of the Kyoto Protocol
In this paper we analyze the driving factors of CO2 emissions in the context of environmental regulations using a dynamic panel data model for the period 1960 to 2009. Given the current policy debate and the importance of evaluating the effectiveness in terms of emission reductions of the already established climate agreements, we investigate to what extent emission reduction obligations from t...
متن کاملEnvironment degradation, economic growth and energy consumption nexus: A wavelet-windowed cross correlation approach
This paper analyzes the interactive linkages between carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, energy consumption (EC) and economic growth (EG) using a novel approach namely wavelet windowed cross correlation (WWCC) for six oil-exporting countries from the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region over the period 1980–2012. Our empirical results show that there exists a bidirectional causal relationship betw...
